Four ways to estimate aerobic capacity

The calculator supports four field methods. Each estimates VO₂ max differently, so compare future results using the same method.

Cooper: VO₂ max = (distance in metres − 504.9) ÷ 44.73
1.5-mile run: VO₂ max ≈ 3.5 + 483 ÷ time in minutes
Rockport: uses weight, age, sex, one-mile walk time and finish heart rate
Heart-rate ratio: VO₂ max ≈ 15.3 × max HR ÷ resting HR

Interpreting the result

VO₂ max generally declines with age and differs across populations, so the visual category is a broad screening band—not a diagnosis or race predictor. Heat, altitude, illness, poor pacing and inaccurate distance can shift a field-test score.
